(Early 1995)

This is a very early design-feature list for the Dendritics 500.  Interestingly, it predated the naming of the scale.  First we called it "Scale-500", then "Gemscale 505", then the final "Dendritics 500".

bullet

Overall closed size of 5'"x 6"x 1".  Not to exceed 6" x 6"x 1.5".

bullet

Not more than two control buttons on each side.  An On/Off/Re-zero button and a Unit button for switching units Carat/ Gram/ Pennyweight etc.

bullet

An attempt to design the controls as to be so obvious that we won't need writing or symbols to explain what the buttons do.

bullet

Dual set of control buttons.  A set of buttons on each side of the scale to accommodate two users. Or alternatively a single "units" button which is accessible to both sides.

bullet

Designed for engineering plastics.

bullet

Be self contained, durable, and portable

bullet

To accommodate six AA batteries with easy access for changing and with obvious correct orientation.

bullet

Dual displays. One to face seller and one to face buyer.  I think there should be an option for deactivating one display if someone wants to.

bullet

A pan large enough to accommodate 500 carats of gemstones or 100 grams of gold or silver.

bullet

A pan with a low enough profile to keep the unit compact when closed. Inverting the pan to achieve compactness is an option.

bullet

A pan not to exceed a diameter of 4".

bullet

An ambidextrous easy to pour and handle pan design.

bullet

Provides a draft shield to protect the readings from interfering   breezes and drafts

bullet

The closed draft shield provides a cover for transporting.

bullet

The draft shield should also have a position where it is out of the way of both users when the draft shield is not required.  Easy detachment is an option.

bullet

Hold and secure without rattling when closed an easily accessible 100 gram weight.
